First, what is a dental emergency? A dental emergency can occur at any time if something happens to your teeth, gums, or other soft tissues in your mouth that causes you pain and requires immediate treatment. Immediate dental treatment is often harder to get than you might think, which is why you should choose a dentist in Arlington who can provide emergency services.
Usually, a dentist’s schedule is so packed that dental patients have to schedule an appointment weeks or even months in advance. This means that most dentists are limited by their schedules in their ability to see a patient with a dental emergency promptly. Rush Creek Dentistry is prepared to help patients with a dental emergency as soon as possible. We are ready to get a new or regular patient in for emergency treatment on the same day they call during business hours. If your emergency occurs after hours, you will be given instructions about what you should do until you can see the dentist. Here are some of the ways we might instruct you to deal with some common emergencies:
- Toothache – If you have a toothache, you should try rinsing your mouth and gently flossing to remove food particles to see if this eases the pain. If not, you may take a painkiller, but do not let it rest on your gums, as it can burn them.
- Broken or Chipped Tooth – Rinse your mouth gently, and try to save any broken pieces. You may keep swelling down with a cold compress and apply pressure with gauze to stop bleeding.
- Dislodged tooth – A tooth that has come out of its socket should be gently rinsed with water and replaced in the socket if possible. If this is not possible, you can place it in milk or a saline solution and get to a dentist immediately.
- Bleeding or swelling – Rinse your mouth gently with water and apply light pressure with a piece of gauze to stop any bleeding. Place a cold compress on the outside of your cheek or lip to reduce swelling.
